Iraq death toll - BBC

The BBC is doing a public service showing the British soldiers killed because of Blair and Bush and Brown getting us in to a war supported by the Tories without planning or listening to the warnings. Also at reminding us all of soldiers killed trying to bring peace and tolerance to Afghanistan.

Mark Thomas - comedian and campaigner.

I don't agree with a lot of Mark Thomas' politics but he is good at comedy and one of the best pro-civil liberties campaigners in the UK.

Nicholas Willmott, bookseller, Cardiff.

Particularly a specialist in Penguin series. This secondhand bookseller has many rooms full of Penguin paperback series particularly before and after World War 2 so worth contacting to ask. Also many biographies, many books on the theatre, music and film, military history, politics, travel, cookery, local history for Wales, English and popular culture. Both hardback and paperback series. Often worth asking in case Nicholas Willmott has or spots the book you are looking for. In Cardiff, South Wales but deals by post. Secondhand books, antiquarian books, historical and recent stock.

stamp out prejudice hatred & intolerance everywhere I'm impressed by the Sophie Lancaster campaign by her Mum, Sylvie, and friends. Like the stand by Jimmy Mizen's family, Doreen Lawrence about her son, Stephen, Anthony Walker's family, these people take a stand for tolerance and respect and try to improve society despite personal tragedy. It's worth remembering that so many people do. Like the Peace Centre in Warrington established to commemorate Tim Parry and Jonathan Ball and to help bring peace out of that tragedy.

Working as a UK election monitor

I often get asked about how to be an election monitor. That's even though I've only been on two missions myself so far (Albania and Macedonia, both with SOLACE Enterprises for the OSCE / Foreign Office). I asked a lot myself and it took me several years of trying & advice from friends to get picked for my first election observation mission abroad. This summary from the UK in Austria is the best place to start finding out that I have seen on the web. The ERIS site gives details on EU requirements. The Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe link gives details for their Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR); with more details under the elections section. I hope this helps other people trying to find out more. You should try and get UK or foreign election related experience first and a couple of organisations provide training courses that you can go on that may help you get picked in the future. No guarantees though.

Tips for musicians. Entirely unrelated but as I do have brothers in the music scene.

Official website, film maker Martin Pickles. I particularly recommend 'Fall Apart'; 'Fisted' (the Hunt for Richard Herring) & 'the Commuter' in Early Films (the latter reproduced as 'the Shaver') & 'the Time Travellers of 1908'.
