Kiron Reid: a long term record of action and experience within the Liberal Democrats

Kiron Reid was most recently city councillor for Anfield and Assistant to the first and current Lib Dem Leaders of the Council. He was subsequently Assistant Executive Member (to the former Leader) dealing with major regeneration projects. He stood in Walton in the 2005 General Election. Professionally he is a lecturer in Law at the University of Liverpool and trained as a barrister in London. These pages were originally created when applying for a party selection in Oldham East & Saddleworth and are now maintained as a personal and political web site.

Brought up just outside Liverpool Kiron founded a youth branch for the party in Crosby constituency in 1987, ran the student group at Bristol University where he served on the Bristol West constituency executive, helped get the Lib Dem MP elected in Bath and was active for the party in both Leeds and the East End of London. He was National Chair of the Young Liberal Democrats of England 1992-93 and first Chair of the new Liberal Democrat Youth and Students of England and Wales 1993-94.

Kiron studied Law at Bristol University and has previously taught Law at the Universities of Leeds and Kent. He lectures in Crime and Civil Liberties and his work has been published in the leading academic journals. He was a member of Merseyside Police Authority 1999 - 2003. He has given guest lectures at the Universities of Bordeaux, Bochum (in the Ruhr) and Sarajevo and Banja Luka in Bosnia and was the first international guest lecturer at the police academy in Banja Luka.

He has spoken on the winning side at an Oxford Union debate along with a prominent Lib Dem Baroness and the local constituency MP against leading Tories.
